Agricultural producers in the Dnipropetrovsk region are incurring losses of $450–500 for every cultivated hectare due to the maritime blockade of ports and the undervaluation of prices by traders. This was stated by the head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional council, Mykola Lukashuk, as reported by “Dnipro Region.”

The cause of this decline is the difficulty in vessels accessing deep-water ports following attacks on civilian shipping. Since approximately 90% of agricultural and mining & metallurgy complex exports are transported by sea, some terminals have temporarily halted grain intake. The supply in the domestic market has outstripped demand, a situation exploited by intermediaries.

In the front-line districts of the region, feed wheat is being purchased for cash at 4–4.5 thousand UAH/ton, or about $100, and for non-cash transactions, up to 5 thousand UAH. Barley is being bought for 2.8 thousand UAH/ton (or approximately $62). For comparison, in the Romanian port of Constanța, Ukrainian wheat costs $220–260/ton. This significant price disparity is what leads to losses for producers.
