In the event of prolonged logistical constraints, Ukrainian agricultural companies are preparing to increase grain storage volumes in polymer sleeves. At «NOVAAGRO», the cost of this storage method is estimated at 250-450 UAH/t, depending on the availability of their own equipment.
Similar solutions are also being considered by «Kernel», «Agroprosperis», and «Agrovista», reports Elevatorist.com.
According to Dmytro Dobroshtan, Director of the elevator business department at «NOVAAGRO», if difficulties arise with grain placement, the company will maximize the use of all elevator storage capacities and accommodate additional volumes in polymer sleeves.
“If problems with grain placement arise, we will maximize the use of all elevator storage capacities and place additional volumes in polymer sleeves,” he noted.
Dobroshtan added that if packaging equipment is rented, the cost of such storage is around 450 UAH/t. If the company has its own equipment, expenses can be reduced to approximately 250 UAH/t.
«Kernel» reported that if grain owners do not collect their grain by September, the company plans to widely transfer it for storage in polymer sleeves. At the same time, they emphasize that this is a forced measure, as the use of sleeves increases storage costs.
«Agroprosperis» notes that polymer sleeves are not an alternative for the company but a basic storage option. In the event of a prolonged logistical crisis, «Agrodar-Bar» and «Zhmerynsky Elevator» plan to increase their use of sleeve storage.
Conversely, «Agrovista» views polymer sleeves as a last resort due to the risks of grain damage by rodents and additional expenses. However, the company will utilize silo bags if stationary containers are insufficient for late crops.
According to market participants’ assessments, there is currently no deficit in elevator capacities in Ukraine. However, companies are already preparing contingency plans in case of prolonged logistical restrictions, and polymer sleeves are being considered as the primary backup option for accommodating additional grain volumes.
