In the village of Besedivka, Romenskyi district, Sumy region, a local farm is completing the harvest of early grains. The harvest here is taking place under constant threat.
According to Suspilne.Sumy, the enterprise cultivates almost 3000 hectares of land, where they grow wheat, barley, oats, rapeseed, soybeans, corn, sunflowers, as well as beans, watermelons, and vegetables.
The security situation is very tense. For instance, a few weeks ago, during rapeseed threshing, a combine harvester nearly ran over a drone carrying 6.5 kg of explosives – fortunately, the charge did not detonate. In spring, while sealing moisture, workers regularly found fragments of Russian “shaheds” in the fields. Such incidents have occurred repeatedly in recent years.
Despite the security risks, the harvest this year is generally assessed as good. Although, according to the director of the company, Petro Postil, the expected wheat yield is about 6 t/ha, which is 0.7 t/ha less than last year.

Rapeseed threshing has already concluded with indicators of 3.4–4.5 t/ha. However, the farm suffered losses due to adverse weather: hail damaged about 100 hectares of crops, leading to a loss of approximately one ton of harvest per hectare. Additionally, the enterprise’s crop rotation includes over 1000 ha of corn, 400 ha of sunflowers, 200 ha of soybeans, 30 ha of beans, and 20 ha of buckwheat.
Farmers are also concerned about low purchase prices and a lack of market demand.
Petro Postil states that they are offered about 6100 UAH per ton of wheat, and the price for rapeseed has fallen from 25–26 thousand to 20 thousand UAH per ton since the beginning of the harvest, with almost no buyers. Meanwhile, the cost of diesel fuel for machinery has significantly increased, further raising the production cost of the harvested crop.
