In the Kramatorsk community, 20 km from the front line, individual farmers have begun harvesting their wheat crop. They live and work under the constant threat of Russian shelling.

This is reported by Suspilne.

The farmers do not plan to leave their native villages. Anatoliy is driving his combine harvester to his plot in the village of Dmytrivka to gather the wheat they grow for themselves. The area of his land is 30 ares. The man will store the harvested crop in his own warehouse. He also plans to harvest corn in the autumn.

Another farmer, Hennadiy, adds that the weather this year has been favorable, unlike the previous one. The harvest is good.

“Last year the harvest was very poor, but this year the sunflower is good, and the barley is good, and the wheat is good,” he says.

He explains that after harvesting his wheat, he will move his equipment to the Kharkiv region to protect it from Russian attacks. Hennadiy will also transport the harvest for storage to the Kharkiv region. He says there is nowhere to store it in the Donetsk region because the elevators are being destroyed.

Residents of Dmytrivka say that electricity is often unavailable due to Russian attacks. They face significant employment challenges because of the war.

“There used to be poultry farms here, people worked, there was life. Now everything is standing still,” says local resident Svitlana.

According to the woman, Russian FPV drones hunt for vehicles day and night.

As informed by phone by Ihor Yeskov, head of the information policy department of the Kramatorsk City Military Administration, 520 people live in Dmytrivka, including 40 children.
