The foundation of the feed base for «Agrain» in the Cherkasy region is traditionally comprised of silage corn, lucerne, and rye, cultivated on certified organic fields. Rye is utilized minimally in the diet. It is grown on separate plots of land, employing a special crop rotation system: rye is sown in the autumn, followed by silage corn.
The Latifundist.com team learned this during AgroExpedition Milk 2026, in collaboration with partners «KWS-UKRAINE» and Credit Agricole Bank. This year, the farm has opted for KWS® AMAROS (FAO 230) and KWS® BIGBIT (FAO 290) hybrids for their corn silage.
“KWS® AMAROS has a shorter maturation period, allowing us to commence silaging earlier. Our harvesting volumes are traditionally substantial, so early harvesting enables us to achieve the highest quality silage in a compressed timeframe—with a high dry matter content,” states Oleksandr Karpyshyn, lead agronomist at «Galex Agro».
Currently, 100% of the silage corn acreage is planted with KWS hybrids, and the farm effectively creates a “silage conveyor” using the company’s hybrids.

A notable aspect of this season in the Zhytomyr region is the cool spring, as clarified by Ihor Davydyuk, corn product manager at «KWS-UKRAINE». The corn did not reach its intended height and subsequently faced heat stress in August. However, the advantage of the early KWS® AMAROS and KWS® BIGBIT hybrids lies in their completed flowering and ongoing grain-filling stage. Consequently, they are expected to successfully navigate the August droughts.
“These hybrids exhibit rapid vegetative mass accumulation during their early growth stages. Due to their high cold tolerance, they can be sown early, which presents a significant benefit, particularly for farms adhering to organic standards,” notes Ihor Davydyuk, corn product manager at «KWS-UKRAINE».
