Following a meeting of the joint Ukrainian-Armenian commission on international road transport, Ukraine and Armenia have agreed to raise the quotas for universal permits by 600 units, representing a 30% increase over the previous volume, as reported by the Ministry of Reconstruction, Infrastructure, and Transport of Ukraine.
“This decision will enable Ukrainian and Armenian carriers to conduct a greater number of international shipments,” the agency explained.
Among other points, the parties agreed to commence the preparation of a new agreement on international road transport, which will involve a gradual liberalization of transport between the two nations.
“We are initiating the development of a new agreement for international road transport, and pending its enactment, we are increasing the number of universal permits. This will help reduce business expenditures and enhance the efficiency of transportation,” stated Serhiy Derkach, First Deputy Minister of Reconstruction, Infrastructure, and Transport of Ukraine, in the release.
The ministry also noted that the countries have resolved to exchange permits for irregular passenger transport for the first time, aiming to foster the growth of bus services between the nations.
Separately, the Ministry of Infrastructure announced that vehicles with a maximum authorized mass of up to 44 tons, registered in states that are members of the ECMT and BSEC systems, will be exempt from road tolls when conducting bilateral and transit transportations through the territory of Armenia, based on relevant multilateral permits.
