On July 28, 2026, the European Commission adopted Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1826, pursuant to Article 17(1) of Regulation (EU) No 1107/2009, amending the list of approved active substances set out in Implementing Regulation (EU) No 540/2011, reports AgroNews.
As authorities were unable to finalize renewal procedures before existing approvals expired, the approval periods for 21 active substances, including phenmedipham, pyraclostrobin, cyantraniliprole, fludioxonil, and metalaxyl, were extended.
The extension provides a legal buffer of three months to three and a half years for the 21 active ingredients to continue sales within the EU market. Sixteen substances on the list are being processed under the old renewal procedure and have accumulated three to ten extensions each; for some, renewal applications submitted in 2013-2014 remain unresolved over twelve years later.
Cyantraniliprole, amisulbrom, and isofetamide received the maximum extension of 42 months, until March 2030.
Pyrimicarb, cyprodinil, phenmedipham, fludioxonil, and fosetyl were extended by one year, until July-September 2027.
The registration for aclonifen, dimethenamid-P, and penconazole was also extended until March 31, 2029.
At the other end of the spectrum is pyraclostrobin, which received only three months – the shortest extension in the batch. EFSA adopted an updated version of its assessment conclusion on January 28, 2026, and the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (SCoPAFF) discussed the renewal draft and supported the Commission’s proposal for renewal on May 4, 2026, leaving only the formal adoption of the regulation outstanding. Pyraclostrobin was first included in Annex I in 2004; this is the tenth time its approval has been extended, more than any other substance on the current list.
