The nest of Hrytsyk and Odarka is empty – young storks have left their home

Young storklets from the nest of Hrytsyk and Odarka have departed their home and embarked on an independent life. This was announced on Facebook by ornithologist Iryna Sarazhynska.

– On July 26th, Lelyovych, Makhаon, Mriya, and Nika began their morning in the nest as usual, and nothing foreshadowed that their flights at 7 AM would be the last ones we would witness this season. A day passed, then another… The young storks did not return to the nest, having spent two consecutive nights away from it. They have flown away, – wrote Sarazhynska.

How the young storks’ last day in their native nest unfolded:

• 07:19 – all four storklets are still together. The morning begins with usual preening, and Makhаon actively spreads and exercises its wings in preparation for flight.
• 07:19:08 – Lelyovych is the first to take to the sky.
• 07:20:02 – Nika leaves the nest after him.
• 07:20:07 – Makhаon sets off in flight.
• 07:22:05 — Mriya is the last to leave the nest.
• 09:30:47–09:34:50 – Mriya briefly returns. This is her last recorded visit to her native nest.
• 11:11:00 – Nadiyka arrives at the nest.
• 11:35:00–11:38:00 – the first encounter between Makhаon and Nadiyka takes place.
• 11:51:45–11:52:20 – Bilozhka visits Nadiyka.
• 12:36:52–12:39:09 – Makhаon flies to the nest once more and meets Nadiyka for the second time.
• 19:51:38–19:51:48 – in the evening, Odarka appears near the nest, where she meets Nadiyka.

– They will probably not return, as the young storks have entered a new phase beyond the nest. Just like every year. And they flew away, as in the previous season, unexpectedly early. So, may their flight be light and unstoppable; let us wish them a happy stork life, – added Sarazhynska.

• On July 24th, ornithologist Iryna Sarazhynska reported that four young storklets from the nest of the famous stork couple Hrytsyk and Odarka had made their first flights.
• On June 29th, it became known that a fifth egg in the nest of Hrytsyk and Odarka had hatched due to the heat.
