Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Rejects Allegations of Kyiv’s Involvement in Attacks in Iraq

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine dismisses the unfounded and unsubstantiated accusations made by Iraq’s National Security Advisor, Qassim al-Aboudi, regarding Ukraine’s alleged involvement in illegal activities within Iraq.
This was stated in a commentary published on the website of the foreign ministry, as reported by Ukrinform.
“There are no facts or evidence to support such claims, as the Iraqi official himself admitted in his interview,” the Foreign Ministry emphasized.
It is noted that prior to such sensational public statements, the Iraqi side had not provided Ukraine with any relevant information or concerns through diplomatic channels.
“If the accusations had any basis, it would be logical to expect this form of communication. Instead, the Ukrainian side learned about the allegations against it from a live television broadcast. We consider it unacceptable and irresponsible when a high-ranking official of a friendly state publicly disseminates such statements without a proper evidentiary basis. This contradicts the principles of mutual respect and harms Ukrainian-Iraqi relations,” the Ministry stated.
The ministry emphasizes that Ukraine consistently views Iraq as an important partner in the Middle East and consistently advocates for the development of mutually beneficial political, economic, and humanitarian cooperation.
“It is noteworthy that the expressed theses align with the narratives of Russian propaganda aimed at discrediting Ukraine and undermining its relations with Middle Eastern countries. It cannot be ruled out that this episode is a consequence of external information influence or an element of a coordinated information-psychological operation aimed at undermining Ukrainian-Iraqi partnership,” the foreign ministry stated.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on the official circles of the Republic of Iraq to “properly respond to the dissemination of baseless accusations and prevent state institutions from being used to relay disinformation that serves the interests of third parties and harms bilateral relations.”
Previously, Iraq’s presidential advisor for national security, Qassim Al-Aboudi, stated in an interview with Dijlah TV channel that law enforcement agencies had arrested “a limited number” of individuals who carried out attacks against several facilities in Iraq, and during interrogation, they allegedly “confessed to working for Ukraine.” He provided no further details.
As reported by Ukrinform, earlier the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiga, reacted to the statement by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi regarding an attack on a civilian vessel in the Caspian Sea, emphasizing that Iran has no right to play the victim and justify its threats with absurd references to the UN Charter.
