Ukrainian security services arrested a Ukrainian Armed Forces officer who disclosed unit locations to the enemy and directed airstrikes. He also sought recruits for FSB recruitment.
The Security Service of Ukraine announced the apprehension of an FSB mole within a marine brigade, suspecting him of adjusting enemy strikes and recruiting other soldiers from the unit, reports UNN.
Military counterintelligence uncovered another FSB agent within the Defense Forces. This individual turned out to be an enemy-recruited officer – a platoon commander for unmanned aerial complexes in a marine brigade operating on the southern front
– stated the SBU.
According to case materials, the individual revealed the positions of his own unit to the occupiers to enable targeting Ukrainian defenders. “Additionally, he guided Russian air raids against reserve command posts of neighboring military units and their ammunition depots. Another objective for the mole involved locating potential recruits for the FSB’s agent apparatus,” the SBU explained.
The investigation found he attempted to persuade other military personnel to collaborate with the aggressor, reporting these efforts to his handler.
“During the final stage of the special operation, SBU military counterintelligence detained the Russian mole at his unit’s location,” the SBU noted.
Searches at his location uncovered a flash drive containing “confidential information he intended to pass to the FSB” and two phones used to communicate with the handler, the security service informed.
Evidence indicates the Russian intelligence service recruited the soldier through family members residing in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk region.
He faces suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under martial law). He is now held in custody without bail eligibility, facing the prospect of life imprisonment and property confiscation.
